The Global History of Energy »

The project on global environmental and energy history was based at the Joint Center for History and Economics and the MIT Research Group on History, Energy, and Environment. The project explored how the historical study of energy use and transformation can widen perspectives on economic, social, and environmental processes in the past. It also served as a forum for the historical discussion of energy in all its forms in a global and comparative context.

Ecology, Economy and Society »

The programme Ecology, Economy and Society 1500-2000 brought together several strands of research into environmental and economic history that have been supported by the Centre for History and Economics since 1999. The project embraced three areas of research, comprising energy history; resource dependency 1500-1850, examining flows in natural and processed resources, and their place in the economic and political thought of Europe; and Expertise for the Future, a collaborative study of the global history of environmental prediction and its economic and political impact since 1600.
